Quillix Content Manager 5.1 Released

PRODUCT RELEASE NOTES

Quillix™ Content Manager

VERSION 5.1.0

December 2020

This version of Quillix Content Manager (QCM) includes updates to the QCM Control Center and the QCM Web Server.

Most of the behavior and features of these modules will be familiar to any user of the 4.2 products. The QCM Web Server talks directly to the QCM database and does not use the QCM Server. The QCM Control Center talks only to the QCM Web Server and does not connect to the QCM database nor the QCM Server. Both modules are 100% compatible with the 4.2 product line meaning that you can use the 4.2 and 5.1 modules at the same time.

Quillix Content Manager 5.0 Released

PRODUCT RELEASE NOTES

Quillix™ Content Manager

VERSION 5.0.0

January 2020

This version of Quillix Content Manager (QCM) is the first release of 2 all-new modules. The QCM Control Center is a new 64-bit .Net application that replaces the Quillix Content Control Center and the Quillix Content Administrator. The QCM Web Server is a .Net Core 3.1 web application that provides a full web client for QCM to replace the Quillix Content Manager.

Most of the behavior and features of these modules will be familiar to any user of the 4.2 products. Both modules talk directly to the QCM database and do not use the QCM Server. They also are 100% compatible with the 4.2 product line meaning that you can use the 4.2 and 5.0 modules at the same time.

  1. Documentation

Full documentation is available at docs.quillix.com.

1.1 QCM Control Center

The Control Center provides a replacement for the 4.2 modules Quillix Content Control Center and Quillix Content Administrator. You can create, modify and delete Volumes, Subvolumes, Repositories, Users, Groups and Queries. There are three new features in this module.

  • Queries have a new flag ‘Always Use All Search Expression Clauses’. In past versions of QCM, if a search condition was left blank by the user, that clause was removed from the query that was executed against the database. This flag will retain that behavior if it is unchecked or retain all clauses when it is checked. This flag is used by the new QCM Web Client, but not by the 4.2 applications.
  • The Checkouts tab allows you to filter the list of checkouts by user, group or repository. You can view all the information for each checkout and cancel checkouts if desired.
  • The Sessions tab allows you to monitor and revoke the ‘RememberMe’ tokens that have been issued to users. The Web Client issues ‘RememberMe’ tokens that are stored in cookies on the client device. The online documentation has more information about this feature and how to configure it.

1.2 QCM Web Server

  • The Web Server is a .Net Core 3.1 web application and can be hosted by any web server (IIS, Apache, Nginx, etc.) on Windows, Linux or OSX.
  • The Web Server can render most filetypes for viewing on the Web Client without needing separate software on the client. Filetypes that can be viewed include doc and docx, xls and xlsx, ppt and pptx, text, rtf, html, msg, pdf and many others. This feature is not available when the Web Server is hosted on Linux or OSX.
  • The Web Server directly accesses all SubVolumes that are configured for the system. If any of the SubVolumes are accessed by a UNC path, the OS account used to run the Quillix Content Web Server must have network permission to access the UNC.
  • Https protocol is required by the Web Server. Please refer to the documentation for your web server (IIS, Apache, Nginx, etc.) for details on how to configure this feature.

1.3 QCM Web Client

  • The Web Client has the ability to view office documents, text, rtf, html, msg and pdf files in the client when the Web Server is hosted on Windows.
  • The Web Client allows playback of audio and video files.
  • IMPORTANT The Web Client cannot directly email documents. It does allow download of documents (with appropriate permissions) and the downloaded file can be attached to an email.
  • IMPORTANT This release of the Web Client has NO support for annotations. They cannot be viewed, modified or added. Annotations will be added in a future release.
  • IMPORTANT The ‘lock’ feature was a way to lock a document and prevent changes to the files attached to the document. This feature has been removed. Please contact us if you would like this feature brought back.
  • IMPORTANT The 4.2 client permitted copying and pasting files of one document to another. This feature has been removed. Please contact us if you would like this feature brought back.

Quillix Content Manager 4.2.79 Released

PRODUCT RELEASE NOTES

Quillix Content Manager

VERSION 4.2.79

July 2019

Contents

This document contains information on the following topics:

  • Content Administrator Bug Fixes
  • Content Manager Bug Fixes
  • System Requirements
  • Contacting Prevalent Support

1.0 Content Administrator Bug Fixes

  • Creating a query with parentheses was difficult.  The query would sometimes display differently when reloaded in Content Administrator.  This build uses a special ‘FieldName’ for parentheses instead of indentation.  Any query using indentation will be converted when displayed the first time in the new Content Administrator.  This build does not attempt to match opening and closing parentheses, and if they are not matched, you will get an error when executing the query.
  • The maximum length for the name of a query is 40 characters.  Previous builds did not prevent the entry of more than 40 characters.  This build restricts the name field to 40 characters.

1.1 Content Manager Bug Fixes

  • After creating a Date or Time field with SQL Server, the ‘Search’ tab would show a DateTime edit control for searching by this field.  The appropriate edit control is now used.
  • If a file was indexed to QCM with an incorrect extension, the file would not be displayed by Content Manager and would always be launched as an external file.  For example, if a TIFF file was saved with a JPG extension and indexed with that extension, it would not be displayed by Content Manager.
  • When executing a query with multiple “Prompt” where clauses, if you didn’t provide a value, that clause would be dropped from the query.  For example, if you were executing a search on LastName and StudentID and didn’t provide any value for LastName, that clause would be dropped from the query before it was executed.  For most queries (when the clauses use the ‘Like’ operator), this didn’t change the results of the query.  But, if you used less than or greater than operators or mixed ‘and’ and ‘or’ conjunctions, this behavior could change the results of the query in very unpredictable ways.  Starting with this release, clauses are not removed from the query.

PRODUCT RELEASE NOTES

Quillix Content Manager

VERSION 4.2.77

May 2019

Contents

This document contains information on the following topics:

  • Content Manager Bug Fixes
  • Content Administrator Bug Fixes
  • Important Changes
  • System Requirements
  • Contacting Prevalent Support

1.0 Content Manager Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a memory leak when displaying image documents.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented display of TIFF images that use old-style JPEG compression (TIFF compression type 6).
  • Adding a server from the login dialog did not work when SSL was enabled.
  • Added a confirmation prompt when deleting a server from the login dialog.

1.1 Content Administrator Bug Fixes

  • The SSL lock icon wasn’t shown on the toolbar when using SSL.
  • Adding a server from the login dialog did not work when SSL was enabled.
  • Added a confirmation prompt when deleting a server from the login dialog.
  • The ‘Row Limit’ field did not work.  You can now use this field to modify the row limit for an existing query or to set the limit for a new query.
  • After creating a Date or Time field with SQL Server, the Repositories tab would show the type of the field as ‘DateTime’.  The type now displays correctly.
  • When adding a field to an existing repository, the ‘type overrides’ for any existing fields were (erroneously) cleared.

2.0 Important Changes

  • In previous builds, the port used for socket communications could be changed from the default of 5464.  Starting with this build, Quillix Content Manager uses port 5464 for non-SSL communications and port 5465 for SSL.  If you are using a custom port, do NOT install this release and please contact us at support@prevasoft.com.

OpenSSL is used to provide TLS communications between the clients and server.  Any build of OpenSSL 1.0.2 may be used.  QCM includes release DLLs for version 1.0.2r built with the ‘no-ssl2’ and ‘no-ssl3’ config options.  No changes were made to the OpenSSL source code.

Quillix Capture 5.4 Released

Quillix Capture version 5.4 is the next cumulative release of Quillix Capture, incorporating all features and bug fixes from previous versions, and new features and bug fixes added since the release of version 5.3 in 2018. Please see the release notes in the Quillix Capture Administrator Guide at http://docs.quillix.com/ for full details on this release.
